Fiftig Seofon: A Café with a Story in Kuala Lumpur

How can we not love cafés that come with a bit of history? Kuala Lumpur has plenty of them -- places where the smell of coffee mingles with echoes of the past. One such gem we visited last year was Fiftig Seofon, tucked inside the striking yellow heritage mansion at Jalan Tangsi, near Tasik Perdana.

Before it became a café, this building had quite a life. Built in the early 1900s by tin tycoon Loke Chow Kit, it was once known as Loke Hall — a grand private mansion that later turned into a hotel and even a cultural space under the city council. Over a century later, the old house has been lovingly repurposed into a modern café, keeping its colonial charm intact while adding a warm, contemporary vibe.

Whether it’s relishing the quiet ambiance reminiscent of a British tea room or enjoying a meal that bridges centuries, Fiftig Seofon offers hearty teas, robust coffees, and fusion dishes that speak of Malaysia’s multicultural tapestry, all designed to delight the palate while evoking nostalgia. Every detail is a nod to the past, and every flavour tells a story. It’s a place where heritage truly meets hospitality.

We spent a slow, easy (and rather rainy) afternoon there, soaking in the charm of the place -- books on the shelves, soft lighting, and that unmistakable air of history around us. And here’s a pic of us there -- a little moment frozen in time, in a café that celebrates how beautifully the old and new can coexist.
