Masjid Ubudiah And The Liverpool Connection
Did you know that the stunning Masjid Ubudiah in Kuala Kangsar was designed by a Liverpool-born architect, A.B. Hubback -- the same man behind KL’s railway station?
I’ve stopped by this mosque a couple of times for solat while driving back to KL from Penang and it’s every bit as beautiful as the pictures -- the golden domes gleaming, the marble details, the royal presence.
Commissioned in 1913 by Sultan Idris Murshidul’adzam Shah as thanks after recovering from an illness, the mosque was only completed in 1917, a year after his passing. More than a century later, Ubudiah still stands as one of the most magnificent masjids in Malaysia.
